Author Emulations
George R. R. Martin
For Martin’s emulation, I focused on describing how the main character felt in certain situations (in this case, his interactions with his parents) as well as mild gore. For one of the scenes, I took direct inspiration from Martin’s first book in the Game of Thrones series, when Bran was pushed from the window by the Lannisters. I used this scene as inspiration for plot and descriptive detail.

V.E Schwab
Key elements in Schwab’s writing include dry humor, the combination of action and feeling, and fluid incorporation of dialogue in a scene. This style was the most natural to write in because her style is very similar to my own.

Kurt Vonnegut
With Vonnegut’s style, I heavily used shorter and simpler sentence structure. For general sentences, I was influenced by how Vonnegut often directed attention from one topic to another, tangentially related one. I also paid special attention to how the dialogue was written as Vonnegut’s dialogue is quite distinctive in its curtness.

Alexandre Dumas
Dumas often utilized complex sentences (i.e., very long, lots of semicolons and commas) and his stories are dialogue-heavy. I did not incorporate these elements as well as I would have liked to, however, dialogue plays an important role in characterization and world-building.
